The other day it was reported that one of the strongest paintball professionals Oliver Lang was leaving Dynasty for DYE team Ironmen.

Today DYE Precision Inc. has announced the signing of a long-term agreement with Oliver Lang. He will be the face of DYE, showcasing its paintball gear and consulting in future product development.

Dave DeHaan, the owner of DYE and the Ironmen, explained that they had been in negotiations with Dynasty, offering them a sponsorship deal exceeding $500 000 and were rejected the deal. So DYE got Oliver Lang instead.

“This choice was the hardest thing I have ever encountered”, says Lang on his web site. But as he explains further “I am happy to be associated with such a company, its products, and its people. I am excited that they approached me with this opportunity to showcase and endorse their playing gear and have future product development input. I am also looking forward to playing with the Ironmen, winning tournaments and wearing a Shield again”.

There is no information about how much Lang was offered. According to Dave DeHaan, the owner of DYE and the Ironmen, he will be making six figures. “It’s only going to grow from that point forward”, said DeHaan.

Having highly paid athletes in paintball is definitely a strong impulse for legitimating the sport.
As Oliver Lang says, “I will truly be the first professional paintball player, and pave the road for all the talented kids who will one day be in my position…The end goal being, acceptance and understanding, so that one-day paintball will be considered a professional sport”.

…and I always thought that the Legion were the first to be true proffessionals; They’re the only team to be getting a regular wage at least, right?
